I love this festival. Every fall, on the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge, over 100 wineries offer tastings in the Wine over Water Festival. This year it will be held on October 4th, 2003. Some of our best local restaurants offer food samples and there is live entertainment. The cost is $40 - but that is for ALL YOU CAN DRINK! The website is: http://www.cornerstonesinc.org/wineoverwater/index.html

The friendliness of the people, the quaint charm of the city

Tennessee Aquarium, I-Max 3-D, Take a free Bus tour around.30 minutes takes you all over so you can see where you might want to go.

Loved the Aquarium. Use the free Trolley to get around the whole town. Then go across the bridge to the park with a Merry-Go-Round in it. My son skateboarded all over the park paths.

Next to the Tennessee Aquarium on the riverfront is a very spacious and modern Visitor Center, and fifteen minutes of free parking are provided in front. At the Center you will find info. about area attractions, events, discounted tickets and helpful tips on planning your trip around Chattanooga. There is much more to see and do than I have on my pages, but I hope to add more as I make return visits to Chattanooga and take more pictures. Just a few of the interesting things to do, for which I do not yet have tips, include:

    Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park
    The Confederama
    IMAX 3D Theater
    Chattanooga Regional History Museum
    Chattanooga African American Museum
Creative Discovery MuseumBluff View Art District
    Chattanooga Lookouts Baseball
    Chattanooga Nature Center
    Tivoli Theatre
    The Southern Belle Riverboat
    Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park
    Dragon Dreams Museum & Gifts
    Houston Museum
    International Towing and Recovery Museum
    Lake Winnepesauka Amusement Park
    Murder Mystery Dinner Shows
Reflection Riding Arboretum & Botanical Garden
    Tennessee Valley Railroad
    and more.

  • If you have kids, go to Coolidge Park! You'll be able to ride a beautifully restored hand-carved carousel and wade in an interactive play fountain. (The carousel is amazingly inexpensive, and the fountain is free.) It's a welcome break from sightseeing during a hot summer day! There is also a pavilion, an open-air performance area, and lots of open space. The Walnut Street pedestrian bridge is right off the park, which means easy access to downtown.

We're lucky to have friends living in Chattanooga - a good excuse for a return visit. If we had to relocate south, Chattanooga would be a fine choice for us. It's a city, but not a metropolis. It's on the water. There are musical and cultural activities. Even vegetarians!

Between 1890 and 1899 The United States Congress established the first four military parks. They were Chickamauga and Chattanooga, Shiloh, Gettysburg and Vicksburg.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga, the first, was designated a National Military Park on August 19, 1890.

See the Incline Railway. It goes straight up the mountain. There are people living way up there. Some children take this daily in order to attend school. This is an old photo of mine.

  • Ride the Incline Railway! You go 1 mile up a mountain, backwards! The scenery is breathtaking, and the park and hiking trails at the top are fabulous!

While on Lookout Mountain (I think that was the name of it!), we found a place where people hanglide. They were very friendly, chatting to us while they put their hangliders together, and then we got to watch them use the updrafts to go higher, instead of just floating down like we expected. Having never seen anything like this and just happening upon it, it was an unexpected, pleasant surprise!

  • Go to Greyfriar's Coffee and Tea, Lupi's Pizza and Panera Bread Company, all in Jack's Alley a couple of blocks south of the Aquarium, which is also awesome.

    Wonderful people, beautiful scenery

  • Well, there was a 'waitress' at the restaurant we frequented who was quite pretty but had a very low voice. (Can you say 'transvestite'?) He/she made the guys in our group a bit uneasy, but the women had fun. The 'waitress' would call the guys 'sweetie', and one short guy in our group was dubbed 'baby'. Their nicknames will stick for quite a while.
