  • Although I have never been hang gliding myself, I would love to try it one day if I didn't get too nervous. I hear it is an awesome experience and is very safe. The Lookout Mountain Flight Park has been teaching people to hang glide since 1978 and if I am correct is one of the largest hang gliding schools in the country. They are located in North Georgia on the mountain, about 40 minutes from Chattanooga. I'm sure this would be a great experience for thrill seekers and nature lovers. Visit their website for all the info you could need.

Savage Gulf is about 45 minutes from Chattanooga in Grundy County, Tennessee. One of the most unspoiled and spectacular parks, it boasts waterfalls, scenic vistas, rock climbing and more. It is in the "boonies" so be aware when traveling there. Everyone who goes there must see the Stone Door and Greeter Falls.

    Ocoee

This is the spot where the 1996 Olympic whitewater events were held. Paralleling hwy 64, the Ocoee river is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority's network of power-generating water works. 112 days a year, the water runs through the Ocoee, creating opportunities for rafters and kayakers to challenge Class III and Class IV rapids. There are many outfitters around the area, and it is about an hour and a half east of Chattanooga towards Ducktown. You have to do this at least once in your life - a lot of fun!

    for outfitters, check the website
