Incline Railway Up the mountain.
The railway is "steeped" in history. What was a coal burning rail in early times, it is now electric with two 100 horse electric engines, from what was coal burning. The climb is a mind boggling 72.7 degrees. Original attempts to bring tourists to the mountain top in late 1800's to commemorate the Civil War ended up as a 4 hour ride. Later and expensive toll road cost $2.00. Then a rail was built, and a hotel at the top was an attraction. In 1895, and since then this rail has operated. It is one mile in length. The hotel burned down in 1907, but the rail remained.
For prices=$14.00 for the rail, or $43 for rail, Ruby FAlls, and Rock City combined.

Steeply angled trolley-car ride up the face of Lookout Mountain. A very interesting experience to look out at the city of Chattanooga through the glass roof of the car. The trolley is hoisted up the mountain on a rail track via a huge metal cable.
This railway goes straight up the side of lookout mountain from the base of the mountain all the way to the crest. It is so steep, that all of the seats lean back at a steep angle so you don't fall out of them. There are 2 cars connected together by cable to act as counterweights for each other as they traverse the tracks. You may have to wait a little while to ride, and the ride itself takes almost an hour.
