The Looking Glass: Nice shop, good food, SLOW service

by ocicat Updated Dec 17, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The restaurant ambience is great. Local artist and craftsmen have their items on display to sell. The tables are beautiful wrought iron. There is a nice garden for outside dining.

Fresh baked bread is wonderful. Most of the entrees are excellent.

But I will not eat here.

Why? Because the service is HORRIBLE. You never know if the staff is going to feel like waiting on you or not. And even if they do, it can take 20 minutes for a cup of coffee and pre-cut dessert to make it to your table.

    Favorite Dish: Croissants.

    Blackhorse Pub: Mmmmm...pizza and beer

by jinkoe Updated Feb 6, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Be ready for CPR

The Blackhorse is Clarksville's brewery and "gourmet" pizza place. There are several types of pizza, some more exotic than others, and several flavors of beer, even vanilla.

The lighting is somewhat dark, but I suppose that's intentional; it is, afterall, a popular spot for dates and such.

It's in the downtown historic district, just down the street from the Roxie and less than a mile from Austin Peay. It's perfectly located to reach a large, and wide assortment of people in Clarksville.

Favorite Dish: To go to the Blackhorse, and not eat the Heart Attack pizza, is a very bad decision. The Heart Attack is aptly named; it's loaded with several types of meat, covered in cheese, and available with garlic crust.

    It's perfect.

    Little Saigon: Vietnamese Soup Fix

by ocicat Written Mar 28, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A little "hole in the wall" restaurant. Don't let the outside keep you from going in.

Hours: Monday to Saturday 10 am to 8 pm.

Favorite Dish: Pho Tai - Beef noodle soup. A huge bowl that only the biggest appetites can finish! It's wonderful!

    Hananoki: Hibachi at its best

by jinkoe Written Feb 6, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Be on the lookout for the onion volcano!

The food is superb every time. Whether it's chicken, steak, shrimp, or scallops, it's always perfectly flavored and delicious. The premeal soup and salad is just enough to get the stomach ready for the treat to come.

My mouth is watering just writing this tip.

Favorite Dish: The best dish to order is the Samurai meal. Enough steak and chicken to make the stomach feel like it does post-Thanksgiving.

Johnny's Big Burger: The Classic Burger Joint

by jinkoe Written Feb 6, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fry a bit and then add ice cream for perfection

Johnny's is the classic burger joint. It has great, greasy burgers, perfectly cooked french fries, and tons of other options that are always cooked to perfection. It's packed for a reason; the food is ALWAYS good.

Be frugal with the soda...there aren't free refills.

Favorite Dish: Johnny's signature item, something I haven't found anywhere else...the honeybun and ice cream. It's amazing, two tastes that are meant for each other.

The honey bun is grilled just enough to get it warm, and make the ice cream melt slightly.

Once you have it, you'll wonder how you've lived this long without it.

The Front Page: CLOSED - The Front Page for Pre-Theatre Eats

8/11/12 - well, we went to see a play at the Roxy and planned to eat at the Front Page, but it is completely emptied and has a "For Lease" sign out front. Add it to to the list of "Ain't Dere No More..."

This is a nice, casual place to grab a bite before crossing the street to see a play at the Roxy. Part sports-bar (see the sports memorabilia on the walls and multiple TVs), part live music venue (stage is at the front toward the window), the staff is friendly and fast and the food is good and reasonably priced - a great combination!

Favorite Dish: I have enjoyed the club sandwich and the French dip sandwich.

The Black Horse Brewery: Local micro brewery and pizza

by ocicat Updated Jun 10, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Black Horse

Clarksville's micro brewery. Great pizzas and pretty good entrees. Drawback is slow service...the management needs to hire more servers!

Favorite Dish: A "create your own pizza" with garlic crust.
