Cookeville Things to Do

  • Tennessee Tech University

One of my favorite things to do is to take walks on college campuses. A good campus is always laid out in a way that creates many scenic walks. Older colleges are often better than new ones, but even some new ones are great. Tennessee Tech is a good walking campus. The administration building sits at the end of two rows of buildings in the oldest...

Burgess Falls State Natural AreaI mention Burgess Falls State Natural Area on my Tennessee page as an 'Off the Beaten Path' activity. If you are going to be in Cookeville for any length of time, it should be elevated to a 'Must See.' The park consists primarily of the land and water along a short section of river with three falls areas. The upper...

Cummins falls is on private property, several hundred feet drop, dangerous to hike down but...

  • Best in Class

Although Cookeville is fortunate to have many good local restaurants, Royal House of Thai, abbreviated HOT, is one of three restaurants in Cookeville that stand out as clear winners in their type of cuisine. HOT’s food is excellent, service is friendly and prompt, and the new remodeling is attractive and clean. HOT has outside seating now but the...

  • The Best Italian Food in town

This is the best Italian Restaurant in town. It is off the beaten path, in an old house. It's very romantic and pricey but well worth a visit for a special occasion, or all the time if you have the money. They dim the lights and have fireplaces in two rooms and 40's and 50's music. This place is has such good food I think they could make it in New...

Tennessee Central Railroad MuseumCookeville is such a small place that it's hard to imagine anything being 'off the beaten path' in Cookeville, but the train museum probably qualifies. I was there for a couple of years before I took the time to see the museum when it was open. On a few of my walks, I wandered into town and looked at it from the...

  • WFTR's General Tip

I lived just down a street behind the football stadium. The walk from my front door to the chemical engineering building took about 10 minutes, and I made that walk a couple of times a day for almost three years. There were days when it rained, and the walk could be pretty miserable in the rain. There were days when I was sick with...

Visit TTU if you're a prospective student and get a student to show you all the fun things to do. There are lots of organizations and TONS of places to eat and things to do. One of my favorite things to do is to relax and unwind at Poet's on the Square and Bookworks. It's a coffee shop/bookstore with the absolutely best atmosphere. I've got my...
