The Natchez Trace really spans from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi. So this isn't something you'll want to do all of in one day! But you can enter the Natchez Trace from Leiper's Fork and see some scenic sights as well as learn some history about the area and the Trace.

The Carter House, which is open for tours, was in the very thick of the Battle of Franklin and has many interesting stories surrounding it. Though much smaller than the Carnton House, it is just as full of stories and information.

This is a beautiful historic home on lovely historic plantation ground. The Carnton House witnessed some of the bloodiest hours of the War Between the States, the Battle of Franklin. It served as one of the main field hospitals for the war. After the war, John and Carrie McGavock, the residents of the plantation, set aside two acres for what would become the largest private cemetery in the U.S. 1,500 Confederate soldiers are buried here.
There are rumors that the house is haunted, and it is widely considered to be the most haunted building in Tennessee. I have experienced some things there myself...but if you ask the tour guides about it, I have found they generally tend to avoid the subject as much as possible...however, you can make reservations for a special nighttime Ghost Tour of the premises on certain days in October.
I have enjoyed multiple visits to the Carnton Plantation, and learn something new each time. I highly recommend it!
