Automatic Slims Tonga Club
When this place opened up in the early 90's, Memphis didn't know what hit it. Good food, and kitschy decorating make this an interesting place to visit.
Favorite Dish: Well, I saw this place the first time I was downtown. When I returned, they were still closed.... (11am on a weekend)

I'll try it next time I'm in town.
Automatic Slim's Tonga Club: Automatic Slim's Tonga Club
Automatic Slim's is a small, upscale downtown restaurant with a hip and ecclectic decor and the food to match. They call the cuisine "Southwestern & Caribbean", but it is more "New Amercian", the chef taking traditional favorites and adding his own personal twist to them. The service was very good, but they are on the exspensive side so that is to be expected. The interior has a cozy, intimate feel. This would be a great place for a nice, romantic evening out. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Closed Sunday.
Favorite Dish: I had the butternut squash ravioli. They were served in a browned butter sauce and they were delcious. My husband had a whole fish served Carbibean-style with mango and hot pepper salsa which was also quite good. They take great care with preparing their food and everything I saw coming out the kitchen looked beautiful. They also have a cool bar with zebra upolstered bar stools, a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink and an appetizer.
