I visited Graceland in the early morning, but even at that times there were bus loads of tourists.
Actually I did not take a guided tour neither did I enter the house of Elvis. At that point of our journey it was to expansive for our empty wallets after a money-spending Florida vacation. So me and some friends just took a look over the wall and saw the residence of the King of Rock'n'Roll from a distance. The wall surrounding the house is covered with notes written by Elvis fans from all over the world. It is almost a must to leave a note for the dead (?) legend.
Outside the gates of Graceland, you can see thousands of fans of the King have written their names and messages on the walls. It goes to show the power that the image of Elvis maintains that so many people feel so personally connected to him.
Hundreds of thousands of Elvis fans have signed the wall surrounding Graceland. Do not count on your message still being visible on your next visit, though. There are so many signatures and little notes to Elvis, that they are often written over by his latest fans. If you click to enlarge the photo, you can clearly see that another Elvis visited Graceland, or perhaps he was trying to be humorous (humourous) by writing Elvis was here! It is actually heartwarming to read some of the words of his loyal fans. Even the light pole at the street crossing is signed with love.
The Home of the King. You can still find people holding vigils around the walls day and night. The walls around are covered with tributes people have scribbled on.
