Well, sorta. On Mud Island, there's a "model Mississippi," where every 2.5 feet are one mile. It's five blocks from "Cairo, IL" to the "Gulf of Mexico," where you can rent a pedal boat if that floats your boat. At every city and every bend and most islands along the river, there's a sign discussing its history in detail. If that floats your boat, you can spend hours here. The real Mississippi is visible from the model Mississippi.
Parts of a few other rivers that flow into the Mississippi, including the Ohio and the Missouri, are also in the model.

This is a half-mile-long scale model of the Mississippi River, in intricate detail. While many walk through the water, it's not advisable; this is a 3-D model, with contours to represent the terrain. One can easily slip. A really fun and educational activity--great for kids.

Mud Island is essentially a dressed up city park that contains a scale model of the Mississippi River. In the pictures, some of which are under the main photo, you will also see that it contains a scale model of the cities which lie along the Mississippi River. Lisa is standing in Memphis, Miyuki and Nina have chosen West Memphis to rest. In addition to the wadeable model, there are food vendors and musicians, some of which were really good, to make your time more enjoyable. For the more academically minded, plaques detail historical outlines and places of significance. You can also get some great views of the river itself from the island. The city skyline is pleasant as well.

On Mudd Island, across from downtown, there is a 1/2 mile concrete replica of the mighty Mississippi River! It has actual running water, and depicts the major rivers that feed it too.
Next time I go, I want to bring a small plastic boat, and drop it into the 'river' and follow it downstream.

Mud Island in Memphis is home to a scale-model of the Mississippi River, including bridges and running water, which children seemed to enjoy splashing around in.
Mud Island is also the former home to the Memphis Belle, the WWII bomber from the movie of the same name, now located at a restoration hangar near the Millington Airport (www.memphisbelle.com).

I had to wait for what seemed like ages to capture this photograph of the monorail (in motion) to Mud Island. Luckily, (for me) there was some construction going on and a few trucks were already parked on the right hand side of the road on Front Street. I pulled over in my truck, and probably just seemed like I was part of the crew, as I was waiting in a No Parking Zone, looking at my map, pretending I was lost, as the police went cruising by. I was anxious to get moving again, though.
Now, about Mud Island ... There is a replica scale model version of the Mississipi River walk stretching five blocks, that represents the river flow from Cairo, Illinois to the Gulf of Mexico. The River Museum tells the story of river transportation, the U.S. Civil War, and the music of the Delta. There is also a 4,000 gallon aquarium included for your viewing pleasure. You might even see a monster catfish or two. Pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, and bicycles available for rental. Also air boats can be hired. There are concerts and special events scheduled at the Mud Island Amphitheater, and tickets are available in advance. A wonderful experience, but in the summer, misquitos are not nice, but ever so friendly,so bring protection. See the website below for more details, including upcoming events and ticket prices.
Operating hours are from 10am-5pm during the spring/fall and 10am-8pm during the summer. They are closed on Mondays. Entrance to Mud Island is free, but the museum will cost you.
$8.00 for adults
$6.00 for Seniors (60+)
$5.00 for Youths (5-12)
Children under 12 (Free)

Much nicer than it sounds. Mud Island has a half-mile-long, three-dimensional model of the entire Mississippi RIver, complete with running water. It also has the original World War II bomber the Memphis Belle. This is the B-17 Flying Fortress flown by Colonel Robert Morgan, on 25 combat missions over Nazi Germany. Those who saw the movie will surely want to see the real thing.
Speaking over movies, The Firm, starring Tom Cruise, was shot here.
