    Hatch Show Print

Right among the honky-tonks packed together on Broadway, Hatch Show Print is half working print shop, half exhibit of performance history. This shop has been in business since 1879, producing the block-printed posters used to advertise upcoming musical and cultural programs all over the US. Reprints of posters from throughout the print shop's production history are on sale. This may not seem too fascinating, but it is.

Hatchs Show Print have been producing their distinctive advertising posters since the Hatch family moved to Nashville in 1875. They have designed posters for many Country Music greats including Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and, in more recent times, Shania Twain.

The shop is now part of The Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame, however, it is still a working printing house and you can visit the shop, see what they do and purchase some prints. We got a fantastic one advertising a Johnny Cash concert and also another produced for the film A MIGHTY WIND have pride of place in our upstairs hallway!

Hatch Show Print is a 129-year-old letterpress print shop, and a partner with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The shop is small, "admission" is free. You can just walk in, view the letterpress posters for sale in the shop (lots of recent-concert posters - and not just country music! There were Beastie Boys and Elvis Costello posters when I was there), and if they are producing at the moment, you can watch them operate the actual letterpress. The historic posters on the wall are interesting (I'm still trying to get them to sell me the Rodney Crowell poster, but so far, no luck...)

Interesting to pop into and look around, but if there is no production at the time, it won't take you long to look thru. It is a Nashville icon, so you really should go at least once. Allow 10 minutes if no production, 30 minutes if production. Remember to keep the door closed behind you so you don't let out the shop cat!
