Athena and The Parthenon in Nashville

    by lvanland7 Updated Mar 29, 2003

The Parthenon in Nashville provides a walk back into history and houses the 42 ft. Athena by Allan LeQuire. The art gallery in the Parthenon houses the permanent display of 63 paintings of the James M. Cowan collection. The gallery also provides a venue for a variety of temporary shows and exhibits. The bronze doors at each end of the Parthenon are beautiful. Be sure to ask about the legend of the Lion's Head on the doors. You may want to take a guided tour first and then browse at your own leisure. Also be sure to check out the gift shop. After visiting the Parthenon you may enjoy the sunken garden in Centennial Park and the Centennial Park Art Center at the rear of the park.

    The Parthenon - Recreated

by DaManley Written Jun 26, 2013

The Parthenon in Nashville was spectacular to visit. It was huge to look at from the outside and approaching it just made it bigger and bigger. The underground area was an art work collection and some of which were interesting. I can't remember the names of the artists and it would have been nice if I could have taken a picture, but it was not allowed. There was also the history of the immediate area of the Parthenon and it's creation in Nashville.

The best part though, and the main attraction, was on the main floor. Inside there was the statue of the Greek Goddess Athena and Goddess Nike of Samothrace. Yes, Nike. She was the embodiment of victory. Which meant Nike was constantly seen with Athena bearing the laurel wreath to crown her.

Real life-size replica of the Partheon in Athens built for a world's fair. Found inside is an Art Museum and a huge statue of Athena.

We visited the Parthenon and took advantage of the many photo ops. It's actually quite interesting and an educational experience if you're up for it.
