Selmer is a town of almost 5000 located in Southwest Tennessee. It is the county seat of McNairy County and was named after the town of Selma, Alabama. It is at the intersection of US Highways 64 and 45. Selmer became the county seat in 1890 when the county government moved here from the town of Purdy.
