While driving down US Highway 90 through West Texas, I decided to stop for dinner in Alpine. I saw a sign for the Edelweiss Restaurant & Brewery. Since I am a fan of German Cuisine I stopped here. The decor was very nice with a distinct German flavor and a touch of Christmas since it was in december. The menu was pretty varied and I opted for the Chicken in Plum Sauce. It was excellent. The portions could have been bigger but the food tasted great. My waitress was dressed in a white shirt and black pants. She was friendly and very efficient. Price was a little higher than average but was worth it. They also had a variety of local brews including one called Alpine Blonde which reminded me of. . . well never mind.

Favorite Dish: The Chicken in Plum Sauce was excellent

The Reata Restaurant serves great western 'cowboy' cuisine.
The restaurant was named after the majestic ranch in the 1950's epic movie 'Giant'.

Favorite Dish: I've heard wonderful things about the entire menu! Everything is fabulous!

Alicias: Best burritos in town
desertsurfer profile photo

This place has the best burritos and burgers/fries in town. Get the trashcan burrito with chile on the side. Or a burger. Either way it's delicious! It is very small, usually busy and they are not in a hurry, but the price is right and the grub is tasty.

Favorite Dish: Burritos, burger and fries.

The Reata: A little overpriced

The Reata is a great place to go to dinner...if you are willing to spend some money. Their dinner specials are constantly updated and range from quail to buffalo and their carne asada is to die for. During the day the lunch prices are much more reasonable. Whereas for dinner the prices range from $10 to the mid $20s lunch prices are around $7. All in all the Reata is a great restaurant to go for a special engagement.

Alexanders: Great Mexican Food in Alpine

Alexanders is on the main drag in Alpine and about a block from the Holland Hotel.
We dined there when on a visit for the Art Fest. They had a Mexican buffet which was superb.
On the weekends they have live music; and the service was second to none.

Favorite Dish: The enchiladas were superb and they had a "make your own" fajita station which was fun.
