When I lived in Texas, during the 1980s, Antone's was known all over the state (and the country) as one of the top blues clubs in the country. Shown here is the club's old home on Guadalupe St.
Since then, the club has moved to a new location on 5th Street, downtown. Its owner, Clifford Antone, has gone on the meet the other great blues players. I'd like to imagine that he's jamming with them somewhere "up there". I feel lucky to have had so many unforgettable nights at this legendary nightclub.
Dress Code: Casual.
Antone's - Great spot for live music! It's said that Stevie Ray Vaughn got his start here.
Not necessarliy unique, but rare: they have a coat check! Also, the toilets in the women's bathroom have little 'motors', so if the handle doesn't cause the toilet to flush, you press the button on the top of the 'motor' in the tank (no lid on the tank), and flush away!
Dress Code: Are you kidding?
I recommend seeing the band Cooder Graw if you're in Austin or anywhere in Texas. These guys are awesome: Loud country, great show, great guys.
If you don't see them, there's probably and great group playing.
Another good suggestion, if the Blues are your thing.. and definitely on my list for next visit.
