  • I have always believed that less is more when travelling! Don't pack what you can't carry!

Comfortable shoes are a must if you are going to walk in Zilker Park or down 6th St. for entertainment. Expect the hot weather during the day but breezes at night, so bring layers of clothing.

Readily available throughout Austin, don't worry about bringing anything other than your emergency first aid kit :)

Bring lots of film and/or digital memory... bluebonnets need pictures to stay alive!

There are plenty of campgrounds out here, so if that is your thing... pack them!

Anti-perspirant is a key here, because when it gets humid, it would be great.

Cover up as it can get a trifle hot in Austin and Texas in general maybe think about having some sort of cap or hat and a shirt - if you dont you'll fry to a crisp!

A camera at the very least as it is so beautiful

Sun screen - if you are a little sensitive

If you are going any sort of distance out in the country then i would take plenty of water i cannot emphesize this more strongly!!!

    The Unpredictable Texas Weather

  • Weather is most of Texas is volatile and unpredictable. The temperature in the winter can go from 80 one day to 40 the next. It's important to pack warm things if traveling between about October and March, regardless of what the forecast says.
Also it should be noted that, despite what movies lead you to believe, Texas is not all desert and Austin gets quite a bit of rain not to mention the occasional ice and sleet.

  • You should be prepared for unexpected bursts of rain. So waterproof jackets or coats &
something to layer underneath for that little bit of warmth.

    There are drug stores everywhere.

Just leave extra space for all the stuff you're gonna buy so you have room to take
    it home!!!

A good camera is probably the most important thing to bring to Austin, and ofcoarse, lots of film.. or memory cards..

  • The weather is generally HOT & STICKY (March-November is HOT)Bring plenty of shorts, and sleavless shirts. Also bring your bathing suit, you will need it.

You can go swimming at Barton Springs. There are trails all over austin. You can go canoe trips, or go pattle boating at town lake. There are trails to walk at town lake, and you can also watch the bats fly out. Every evening they all fly out at once. You can go camping and/or fishing at lake Travis, or there are other camp sites. There is also deer hunting close to Austin (All Texans have their guns)

  • Something that you can sling over one shoulder, that will carry your stuff for the day.

SPECIAL CLOTHING: Various pants, shirts and shorts; skirts, and blouses. The heat and humidity on certain days will beat you down so dress appropriately. SHOES: Sturdy walking boots or sneakers, at any rate something that will be comfortable all day. WEATHER GEAR: Depends. It does rain here, so some sort of rain gear is needed then, and it can become quite cold in the winter, 20-35 degrees (F). I've even seen 25-45 degree (F) temperature drops in a matter of minutes in the late summer or early fall, when a good Norther blows through. At times like that a good wool sweater or parka is great!

Many excellent hospitals and pharmacies in the metro area, so bring what you would anytime you go out of town for an extended visit, including sunscreen. I usually carry a small first aid kit, just enough for myself and another person.

YES! It should not be a problem getting spare batteries or a re-charge for your equipment, just have a converter if you need one.

Get's downright warm here in the summer, but the camping is excellent. See: Off the Beaten Path and Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear.

If you are like me, you either take too much or not enough of something when you leave home. Because Austin is a major metropolitan area, there should not be any reasons NOT to get what you may need, should you need it. One item to never be without: a Bandanna, whether to tie around your head or neck as sunshade; to use as a pot holder when camping; to clean your eyeglasses; for first-aid use or small children's needs.

  • Austin is very hot and humid in the summer (especially in August) so pack clothes you'll be comfortable in when it's hot and sticky out. Don't forget your sunscreen. That sun is viscious! It doesn't get very cold in the winter so a warm jacket will do to keep you warm. The fall and spring are gorgeous here! BUT as the saying goes in Texas 'If you don't like the weather here, wait a minute and it will change.' So be prepared for anything!

  • comfortable shoes for walking (you will walk a lot), a small umbrella, wind breaker, cool clothes (it's hot and sudden storms come up quickly)

    Sunblock! (year-round)

If you have major camera problems go to Austin Camera Coop. Remember to bring film for really bright light. It's sunny down here!

The rivers/lakes seem cold compared to the air, if you plan to go swimming bring warm cover-ups. Bring clothes you can sweat in (you will!) and still be comfortable.
