Hut's Hamburgers, Austin
Hut's is an Austin icon, it's been around for a while (like the 1920's) It used to be a drive-in, then a diner, and now Huts It's usually pretty packed but the service is quick and the food is top notch. The walls are decorated with mostly Austin and University of Texas memorabilia, and a lot of stuff from the history of the area.
Favorite Dish: Buffalo burgers - made with real bison meat with blue cheese dressign on top And beer battered onion rings. They have specials every day, like two for one tuesday, so you can get a good meal for not too much. they have cherry coke too!
Old diner that still has that 50's feeling. It has been the site of various restuarants since 1939. Decorated with faded banners from every sports team under the sun and newspaper clippings from all the years that it has been open.
Favorite Dish: The hamburgers, of course. There are 20 varieties. One of the best I've had. The onion rings were huge, so they were great for onion lovers, but too much onion if they aren't your absolute favorite. Fries were soggy, so skip them. For the adventerous who are willing to spend a little more, you can even get buffalo meat instead of beef.
If you love sports, you will love Huts. Decorated to the max with any and all kinds of sports paraphernalia, it caters to the fanatic. Sons will ask their fathers how to throw the perfect curve, daughters will ask their mothers what a home run is - fun for the whole family. The American-style food is great, and the portions are always generous. The hamburgers are big and juicy, and the fries large and plentiful. Come early! As the dinner hour approaches, so does the crowd. If you want to get in and out fast, try grabbing a spot at the bar where you can order and eat food as well. Located on Sixth Street, near the Mopac exchange, it's hard to miss the bright neon sign beckoning you.
Favorite Dish: Old-fashioned Cheeseburge w/ fries.
I always say the small restaraunts are the best ones, Huts has a great atmosphere and the best burgers I have ever had in my life! The walls are littered with university sports pennants and old pictures of university sports teams (Not just of UT)
Favorite Dish: Mushroom Swiss Burger
