Kerbey Lane Cafe by ATXtraveler Its 3am, you have been out all night drinking and carousing on 6th St, and you know it is not healthy to go to bed on an empty liquored up stomach... what do you do hotshot... what do you do? Ok, sorry had a "Speed" flashback. When faced with this dilemna, I like to satisfy my late night dining needs at Kerbey Lane Cafe. The gingerbread pancakes are absolutely awesome, and the queso is the key to a good plate of migas. Leave a Comment

This place has the best homefries ever. It serves all kinds of food, from all-day breakfast to hummus tacos to sandwiches to enchiladas, and they're all surprisingly excellent. The atmosphere is very eclectic, with a diverse crowd and funky waitstaff. There are about five different locations for the restaurant, but the best food is at the original location, on 3704 Kerbey Lane. It's always busy so you should expect to wait a little bit, but it's well worth it.
I'm partial to the grilled chicked sandwich with homefries. It's a massive plate of unforgettable food. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 3704 Kerbey Lane, Austin, TX

I've mixed feelings about the Kerbey Lane Cafe. The atmosphere of the place was nice and cosy and I really like the idea that they're growing their own products, but the service wasn't all that great (the waitress was quite put off by my French ID and wouldn't serve me beer) and the food perhaps wasn't all that fresh. But it's such a favorite with the locals, I'd be willing to give it one more try...
We were there for lunch but apparently it's better for breakfast Leave a Comment

I'm talking about the original now: an Austin culinary icon, they serve homegrown, pesticide-free vegetables and free-range beef and pork. Over 80 items on the menu and open 24 hours a day.

Any Kerby Lane joint is great here. Going to Kerby is very Austin. After midnite visits are preferable, or breakfasts.
Any Pancake selection. I swear, Austin has the best pancakes in the world. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: I used to go to the one on South Lamar

This place is laid-back, casual, and cool, just like the city of Austin itself. Even the staff seems to be young and cool. The menu has an amazing selection, including vegetarian, Tex-Mex, and general American fare. There are so many choices, including seasonal selections like cranberry apple cheesecake. I usually go to Kerbey Lane for brunch at least a few times a month. The wait is worth it. Just relax in their outdoor area (if the weather's tolerable) with a copy of the Austin Chronicle and enjoy the vibe. I go to the S. Lamar location, where people watching is excellent. You'll see hipsters, hippies, families, and everyone in between.
Two words: KERBEY QUESO. I personally think it's the BEST queso in town, and I have also convinced many out-of-towners and new Austinites that this is a completely valid statement. My friends and I order it nearly every single time we're at Kerbey Lane. And we devour all of it. I order omelets often, too. The chicken omelet with verde sauce is great. So is the California omelet. And the Denver omelet. And any other omelet. The Paris, Texas platter is very clever (and delicious). It consists of French toast AND migas. It's a lot of food, so make sure you're hungry or else share this dish! Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Several locations!

Lots of "trendy" people hang out there. Kind of a coffee bar feel. A couple locations. Downtown is on Kerby Lane. North location is on Hwy 183. The north location isn't as busy, and parking is easier to find...but they both get packed and there's often a wait...even at 3am at the downtown location. It does sometimes get a little loud with all the people talking. Interesting staff.
Gotta try the Kerby Queso...guacamole in a bowl, with queso poured over the top, served with chips and salsa. Great salads, vegetarian items, lots of tea flavors, art on the walls created by local artists... They have really good fruit pancakes if you like going out for breakfast. I love their black bean tacos too (whole wheat tortilla, black beans, cheese, avacado). Kerbey Lane ON Kerbey Lane by ShinerBlonde When people ask me at my job "Where's a good place to eat that's truely Austin?" I always suggest Kerbey. Of course I myself have only been there after dark (usually around midnight), but no matter which Kerbey you pick...you'll be sure to see what Austin's got. The original Kerbey is kind of hidden off of 38th street by Seton Hospital, if you can find it - it's the only one out of the three who serves up Waffles. The one I've been to the most is Kerbey off of the Drag (and for you NON-Austinites...the Drag = Guadalupe), it's got the BEST of my favorite dish (which you'll see down below). Of course, if you're South or North you'll find a Kerbey as well. Now a bit of a warning: The service is usually slow - well mostly always, so if you're in a rush or HATE seeing people who come after you sometime get served before you, try a fast food place instead. BUT- if you want to try a laid-back and great breakfast place, Kerbey's the place!
It sounded weird when I first got it, but now I'm a sucker for it: Chipolte Grilled Cheese Sandwhich with Mashed Potatoes But of course their pancakes kick-ass too!
