This place is known for serving great Tex-Mex and Southern specialties and their Mexican Martinis are awesome! They limit you to two, but after having a couple you'll know why!!
Favorite Dish: Chips & Queso and Mexican Martinis...great combo
Trudy's Texas Star: Trudy's Texas Star
If you go away hungry, it's your own fault. Small bar and music stage downstairs -- used to be a good source of local jazz.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatos and cream gravy. Side order of beans. Sweet tea.
One of the most popular Tex-Mex restaurants around here, among the locals. It is always crowded and there's a bar downstairs. Expect a long wait on the weekend evenings! Also, you get really good food for a really good price.
Favorite Dish: Everything here is REALLY good! There is a Margarita Martini that you HAVE to try! It will put you on your ass! Even the menu says 'limit 2 per person'. You have to request queso (cheese) with your chips. It's a big thing at Tex-Mex restaurants down here. Try the Tex-Mex version of a chicken kabob!
Trudy's: loud atmosphere, OK food
We ate lunch here one Sunday and had about a 10-minute wait at the bar. I just kept thinking how loud it was. We were seated in a corner area, but it was still quite loud. The tables seemed too close together so that we could hear other people's conversations, and the music was turned up too high. I prefer a quiet, calm dining experience, so this was not my type of scene.
Favorite Dish: I had a black bean burger, which came with wedge fries. It tasted fine -- not bad, not spectacular. The whole wheat bun was good and had an interesting sweet taste. My husband enjoyed his "fried avocado," which was actually a chicken patty topped with avocado, battered and deep fried.
Trudy's: Best Miga's in Austin
Trudy's has by far the best damn miga's in Austin. If you are there for lunch or dinner, try the Mexican Martini's. They are super potent and they limit you to 2. Mexican martini's at Trudy's are the reason me and my husband got together!
