    Hamilton Pool Preserve

Beautiful Hamilton Pool lies about 25 miles west of Austin off Highway 71. It is a hidden oasis and the closest Austin comes to looking like Hawaii. The aqua blue pool is in a canyon feed by a 45-foot waterfall. When the weather is nice you can go for a swim in the inviting waters or just relax on the shoreline and feel the mist from the waterfall. The park has a short nature trail that follows Hamilton Creek to the gorgeous Pedernales River.

    The Falls

To those who seek a little change from the normal Austin landscape need not go far. For on the outskirts of the city lay Hamilton Pool and its magnificant waterfall. Water pours down 60 feet from an overhang cliff, creating the swimming pool. Feel free to venture underneath to get soaked in the downpour.

Hamilton Pool costs $5 per car to enter, but only has space for about 50 cars, so it pays to come early. Also, after heavy rains the water can be overcome with certain bacteria which prohibits swimming (i.e. if you want to swim, just call ahead to find out).

It is a beautiful natural spring pool with a 45 ft waterfall and all. It looks like a lagoon and the water is perfect temperature for the hot Texas summers. You enter through a 232-acre reserve, which is absolutely breath taking. If swimming isn’t your thing, they also have trails you can hike on. Pets aren’t allowed and you must bring your own drinks/foods, as they don’t have any provided for you. If you bring an ice chest please bear in mind that you have to hike at least 5 minutes to get from the parking lot to the pool. The terrain isn’t bad, but it would be difficult w/ a big, heavy ice chest. I suggest you get there at least by early afternoon since they only allow 75 cars and it fills up fast. It cost $5 per car to enter.
