Music Fans can't Miss this one...
Stevie Ray Vaughn (1954-1990) was one of the greatest guitarists to ever play for a crowd, as evidenced by how many fans come to see his statue that is dedicated to his memory in Austin. Austin was the place where Stevie got his start, and one of the main reasons Austin today is considered the "Live Music Capital of the World".
On the link below, you can learn more about Stevie Ray....if you would like to see the statue, it is at the Hyatt on Town Lake. If you need the address, it will be on my Hyatt tip under hotels.
Its a Statue
Yep, just a statue. My husband had to go look at this thing. I mean its neat, and looks just like him, but it is just a statue. The park is nice, and it's a good reason to get outside and take a walk. Eh, not a big deal.
Tribute to a blues legend
Stevie Ray Vaughan's career was too short, beginning with the release in 1983 of the album "Texas Flood", which featured the hit song "Pride and Joy", and tragically ending 7 years later when Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash. In 1993, the city of Austin decided to pay tribute to the blues legend by erecting a bronze statue on the south shore of Town Lake, west of Congress Ave Bridge. The short walk to get to the statue is actually a very pleasant one, with great views of downtown Austin.
