I would highly recommend the Austin Duck Tours as a great way to experience this town in a unique way!

It is basically a British military vehicle that has been transformed into a tour bus that can go on land or water!

You will visit downtown, the Bob Bullock museum, 6th St. SoCo and also the Lake Austin sites and sounds.

$18.50 for adults and $13.00 for children ages 3-12

    Live Music at the Airport

Welcome to the Live Music Capital of the World. When arriving into Austin, you will be landing at our brand new airport (opened in 99). Austin Bergstrom International Airport is now open for business, and features alot of things not common to normal airports.

The live music that fills the city does not shy away from the airport... make sure you save a little time on your arrival to watch a song or two from one of the many Austin artists that play there!

With the high costs of gasoline, these gentlemen were quite popular during my two recent visits to Austin. Although the vast majority of the sites are within walking distance from one another, the trek becomes difficult for many due to the numerous hills. As an alternative to hard walks, people are turning to these bike taxies for transportation.

Unlike taxies & buses, these guys don't have a centralized location from which they are dispatched from. However, just like a taxi they are nearly impossible to flag down. Based upon my observations, you pretty much have to throw yourself in front of them in order to get them to stop. I'm not quite sure why this is, but if I'm going to do something like that, it better be one hell of a ride.

Hop on board the Dillo trolleys

  • The Dillos run through downtown Austin and they're free so it's a great way to easily get from one attraction to another. The different routes are color-coded so all you need to do is look for a colored armadillo on the bus stops! You can also check out the Web site for more information on the different routes and schedules.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a great little airport to fly into. I noticed references to a woman named Barbara Jordan found throughout the airport. Barbara Jordan was the 1st black woman elected to the Texas senate and a three-time congresswoman. The airport terminal is named after her.

  • Take the free Austin Dillo to get around town. They look like trolley cars and can be found cruising around all over downtown.

Like most big cities in the US, Austin sure has a problem when looking for a car park. Difficult to find, or you end up paying a bit.

If you are coming from overseas, or another State, you will most likely travel by plane, or car.
You would need a car to get the most out of your visit to Austin, the city is so spread out, that relying on any other type of transport might be a hassle. However, if you don't want to drive, Austin has a great bus system.

  • By plane... Texas is no place you want to drive through. There is nothing to look at.
It's very boring, but if you're on a budget, of course, driving is most sensible, but make
sure you're well rested, because there will be nothing to keep you awake.
Like i said in the warnings, walking is best or taxis because downtown Austin during
South by Southwest is very scary. People pretty much ignore basic driving laws &
do what they want so watch out!!!
