Bedford Things to Do

  • The Old Bedford School

The first Bedford area school met in a log building during the early 1860's. After the Civil War, classes were held in a frame structure at Spring Garden, north of the present location. After burning down in the early 1880's, Milton Moore (1828-1914) deeded land here for construction of "Bedford College", an elementary and high school academy. In...

  • Public Library

The public library has been through alot. Across the street from the city hall offices, it has seen better days. Because Bedford city government thinks landscaping streets is more important than public services, the library is not open all the time. If you decide to go, better call ahead to make sure it is open.

Located just to the south of Highway 183 in Hurst, this grocer is owned and staffed by (I believe) a Pakistani family. Always very courteous, I now go there for spices and other food items, especially when I want to make curry.

What to buy: Basmati Rice, Curry, Spices, Vegetables, tapes

What to pay: about $12 for a 25 pound sack of Basmati Rice.

The property was cleared of the trees and scrub and sold to developers because one side borders highway 121. These two cows got to know us because we would bring them vegetable and fruit scraps. When we showed up in the street they would come a...
