Boerne's Vistro Restaurant: Italian and German Family Dining

by AlbuqRay Updated Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Vistro Restaurant is built in the Sunday house style, i.e., with an upstairs and an exterior staircase (see my local custom tip). They have German and Italian specialties but I just had the German, since it is hard to find back home; however, their homemade bread with pesto was outstanding. The Sunday house motif allows a unique 35 foot bookcase. The service was friendly and excellent.

Favorite Dish: House Special...pork medallion, smoked sausage, bratwurst, sauerkraut, red cabbage, roasted potatoes, $12.95

Limestone Grille: Fine Dining in Historic Kendall Inn

by AlbuqRay Updated Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Limestone Grille was recommended by locals as the best restaurant in Boerne. It is located in the historic Kendall Inn, which was once a stagecoach stop. I don't drink but they had a large wine selection. They serve many unique items such as homemade Hungarian bread. Their side dishes were varied and delicious sounding (e.g. quinoa, creamed or frizzled spinach, butternut pecan mashers, green beans palermo). I can vouch for the quinoa and creamed spinach. :) Strangely, there were no German entrees on the menu.

Favorite Dish: Wednesday Special...prime rib, roasted eggplant and tomato soup, roasted garlic and pimento mashers, $16.95

    Mague's Cafe: Excellent Tex-Mex Restaurant

by AlbuqRay Updated Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mague's is excellent for Mexican food and/or breakfast at bargain prices (~$5.00). Their Spanish rice may be the best I have ever had; however, I tried the flan and it was just okay. The service is efficient but they don't open until 7 AM.

Favorite Dish: Popurry Plate...tostadas fresh and crisp, green chile salsa, enchilada with red tortilla, chalupa, crisp taco, Spanish rice and beans.

Boerne's Vistro Restaurant: Vistro's Upstairs Dining Room

by AlbuqRay Written Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The upstairs dining room and bar was not in use when I was there. It would be great in the winter when the weather is cold. It had a nice view of Veterans' park out the windows along the north wall. It was also built like a balcony overlooking the 35 foot bookcase and the downstairs dining room.

Po Po Family Restaurant: Get a Seat by the Window and Enjoy the Food

by Mmasarech Written Apr 29, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Po Po, situated about 6 miles from downtown Boerne near a town called Welfare, is full of local character. Our family enjoyed sitting by the window where we could see hummingbirds feeding right outside.

The walls of the restaurant are covered with decorative plates from all over the world.

The service was fast and friendly. Food was good too!

Favorite Dish: My daughter and I loved the ribeye. It was Angus beef, nicely seasoned, and cooked just to our liking. My husband raved about the fried catfish, okra, and hush puppies.

Ye Kendall Inn: Best In Boerne!

by TexasJack Written Jan 19, 2005

This restaurant is right off the town square of this town, about 30 minutes north of San Antonio. The "Key to the Hills," Boerne (pronounced Burn-Knee) is a friendly community full of German heritage. This restaurant is the best place to eat. The food is always consistent. Ye Kendall Inn has been visited by historical dignitaries, and was a stage coach stop in the 1800's & early 1900's. The Chef can help you with your catering (wedding, anniversary, party) choices. My favorite part is the ambience. It's at the end of a historical Bed & Breakfast Inn, near the Cibolo (means Buffalo) Creek. Next door is the city library.

Favorite Dish: I get the onion soup with most meals. Served in a real onion.

Boerne's Vistro Restaurant: Sunday House Style

by AlbuqRay Written Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This picture shows the Vistro's Sunday house style combined with a European beam and stucco look. You can kind of see the exterior staircase behind the big tree on the left.

Boerne's Vistro Restaurant: 35 Foot Bookcase with Fireplace

by AlbuqRay Updated Sep 19, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a view of the 35 foot bookcase from the upstairs balcony. I have no idea how they got the items placed on the shelves to begin with, much less how to dust them.
