This place isn't fancy, but is one of the best local restaurants, and very inexpensive. It is as close to home-made as you can get.
For lunch they have a regular list of some 15 plates. All are served with a bowl of soup, and a small dessert- coconut cake or vanilla flan- all for under $10!
Not a lot of English is spoken by the staff, but they understand it to some degree, so even the most Anglo visitor won't have any problem.
Best fast food burger in the world! I know, I have had a bunch of them.
Favorite Dish:
Double meat Whataburger. No cheese. Meat, mustard, dill pickles and sliced jalapeno peppers set off the lettuce, onion, and tomato. The bun is grilled and the patties are juicy. I am getting hungry just writing about it!
A great place to eat on South Padre is at South Padre Island Brewery.
The price is reasonable and they have a decent menu to choose from. You can go up to the second floor and sit outside on the deck. You get a great view of the Island and the weather is usually always great in the summer. (They have an elevator as well)
Favorite Dish:
Aside from there great beer, I'd have to say there stakes are excellent.
Ho's Garden on Palm Blvd. near the railroad tracks in front of Ninfa's restaurant; the best Chinese food you ever wanted to taste, bon-a-petite. Say hello to the owner Mrs. Ho; tell her Elizabeth Black sent you, she knows me well.
Decorated inside very nice in oriental style.
Favorite Dish:
Moo Goo guipan with steamed rice or Chicken with Broccoli and steamed rice. Prices are very reasonable no more than $4.00 with drinks and big portions.

I asked the waitress. I was in TEXAS and wanted the real thing. In broken English / Spanish she said:
