Caddo Lake State Park Favorites

Favorite thing: A small fee is charged to enter Caddo Lake State Park--we paid $4.00 for two people.

Here are some park rules to be aware of:

Guests are required to leave the park by 10 pm unless they have a permit for camping. Permits must be visible on the windshield of each vehicle.

There is no picnicking at the park, since the numbered sites are for campers only.

Any garbage must be disposed of before leaving the park--dumpsters are placed strategically throughout the park.

Pets must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after when visiting the park. None of the cabins permit pets.

Public consumption or display of alcoholic beverages is prohibited.

Favorite thing: I think I could spend a pleasant night in one of these screened cabins. That is, if you're fortunate enough to have made your reservation early.

They're set back from the road in a lightly forested area. Each screened cabin has electricity inside and out*, a water spigot and grill.

For these 12 x 16 shelters, you'll pay $20 for each night or $120 weekly. You may make your reservation by calling 512-389-8900.

Favorite thing: Caddo Lake State Park makes three sites available for those wishing to use their tent.

Mill Pond Camping Area, which seems to be more of a primitive set up or Squirrel Haven Camping Area and Armadillo Run Camping Area, which provide water and electric.

I noticed that parts of Armadillo Run are bordered by a noisy highway. Even though the forest forms a thin barrier, I could still hear the traffic.

A maximum of eight people can camp at each site. Quiet time is between 10 pm and 6 am for all campers. Reservations can be made by calling 512-389-8900.

Favorite thing: These cabins are nestled beneath some very tall trees and look inviting enough! There are nine cabins, each with a microwave, central air and heat, plus private bathrooms with shower and hot water, picnic table and waist-height grill (outside).

Here's a breakdown: two of the cabins will accommodate two individuals; four of the cabins will accommodate four individuals and three of the cabins will house six people.* Linens and towels are furnished, but kitchen ware is not. You won't find pots or pans, dishes or silverware here.

*Those cabins that sleep 4-6 people have apartment size refrigerators, a gas stove with two burners and a gas fireplace. Please note: two person cabins do not have these things.

The cabins which sleep six people only include two double beds, so cots, extra bedding, sleeping bags, pillows must be brought for the remaining two campers.

Favorite thing: Caddo Lake State Park is a nice place to camp and fish and boat. The lake is more bayous and waterways than it is a lake. Wildlife is in abundance here...I saw some deer and some bugs...and some birds...and a lizard with a neon blue tail...but no alligators.... The park also has hiking trails, boat ramps, a fishing pier, and a boat rental place. The Caddo Lake St. Park isn't really that big, but the Caddo Lake area itself is in 2 states (TX and La) and stretches over 25,000 acres...the state park can be found near Karnack, TX. If you're into the great outdoors, visit Caddo for a day or a night or two.
