Claude has a nice historic district with several buildings of historical and/or architectural interest.

Armstrong County was organized in 1876 and was named for several early Texas pioneers named Armstrong. Claude, the county seat was established in 1887 when the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad came through the area. The engineer of the first train through town, Claude Ayers, recommended the townspeople name the town after him and they agreed. The current courthouse was built in 1912.
