Padre Island, Corpus Christi
The beaches were fairly cool in mid March. We went to several of the beaches on Padre Island. There were several access roads that can be found by taking South Padre Island Drive (SPID) south to the island. Specifically, we enjoyed the beach off of Access Road 5. You are able to drive out to the beach and even park your car on the sand (weather permitting). The beaches in this area are either free, or you have to self pay. We didn't see any kind of station to pay at while we were there.
It was nice to get away from Kansas and spend some time in the Ocean. This was Justin's first time to salty water, he was suprised at the taste (nasty).
What a perfect place for my kids to have their first ocean experience. Even in Sept it was really hot, so we went in late afternoon, and it was perfect. Be prepared for the wind! We went two times, once to the actual national seashore and once to the resort area. I much preferred the seashore since it is so pretty and undevelop. When we went, we were the only ones there!
Watching Migration Hummingbirds
South Padre, the long island across the bay of Corpus Christi, is famous for the migration of?@hummingbirds from the end of summer to fall. I actually saw them there. Every house's garden was hanged the water feeders, the bird came to drink one after another. I was strongly moved for this looking.
Not only is this island considered to be one of the best beaches in the US but it is also the hottest spring break location in the world. Named best surfing in Texas!
