The U.S.S. Lexington is located just outside of downtown Corpus Christi. It's a great way to learn some of our history from the mid century.
Give yourself plenty of time to explore this floating city, as she is much larger than she first appears. You'll get a great workout on your legs as well.....lots of stairs on the tours.
The Lady Lex has even stood in for some of her more notorious cousins in the movies recently, She was featured in Pearl Harbor.
The USS Lexington is a ship that was used to transport airplanes at sea (aircraft carrier). It is now sitting in the Corpus Christi Bay area where it is no longer in use, but is a museum of sorts.
For all of you boat/airplane/history fans, this is something you should check out.
It is about $12 per person to enter, but you could spend all day there. They have movies you can watch, you can wander all of the decks of the ship. You can go up top to see the planes they have kept on the top of the ship. I'm not really into all of that (Justin is) and I still found it pretty interesting.
We didn't have time to tour this aircraft carrier, but it seems like it would have been lots of fun. It sure looked big from across the bay. If you have boys that are interested in military things, I would definately make this a "must see."
One of the top 10 visitor attractions in the state! Bring the whole family aboard for an awe-inspiring look at the most famous aircraft carrier in U.S. Naval history. Brand new aboard the ship is the MEGA Theater! You'll go on amazing journeys of sight and sound as you are immersed in three-stories-tall giant screen images and thundering sound. Two giant hit movies, To Fly, and Mysteries of Egypt, are showing daily. Don't miss it!
