There are various Asian food stalls which are not huge in variety but are not bad. A lot of the dancing and singing are performed by children and there are many stalls offering activities specifically for children. Along with the sponsors stalls, there are various Asian stalls offering goods from their respective countries.

One day a year, every American is Irish, and in Dallas the place to tip your hat and say Slainte is on Lower Greenville Avenue, on the East side of Dallas. Greenville Avenue is already known for its street full of fun bars and eateries, but once a year, they block off the street, and the St. Patrick's Day spirit comes out in force. The day starts early with a parade, and goes long into the night with plenty of Guinness and green Bud Light flowing. Most of the people who live on adjoining streets will also host smaller gatherings, so people can take a break from the craziness and enjoy the passersby from a safe distance.

I was invited to one such party last time, and enjoyed a decent crawfish boil as we watched people walk on by.

The City Arts Celebration has been an annual event in Dallas' art district for the last five years. This past weekend was our first taste of this colorful gathering of the art community.

It was blazing hot when we attended. Fortuitously, a misting station was located in the center of all of this creativity--for which we were very thankful!

As we trudged up the street, vibrant oils caught our attention, but actually it was the pottery that seemed most captivating (pic #2). We were drawn to many of these stalls to sort through hand crafted "treasures".

A cool display of "art cars" made for a photo op, while in another area elementary children performed a dance beneath a large, sheltering canopy. Live music filled the air in a variety of forms: a rock group, Tejano music and others (pic #3).

Of course, it seems every event like this has a food section, so we were thrilled to find funnel cakes, which we divied up three ways. I can't say that this event compares to Fort Worth's Art Fest, but perhaps in time it will.

This was the first year that I went, but I always wanted to go to this event.

There are 25,000 people that attend the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church.

You can see dancing, eat Greek foods and have some OPA fun!

The State Fair of Texas has been running since 1886 and every year in September/October for about 3 weeks, thousands of people travel to Dallas to see exhibits, ride on the rides, and to some, the most important thing, to enjoy all the food the State Fair has to offer.
This is bought with coupons which you can buy in the park. Aside from the usual corny dogs, turkey legs, chicken wings, nachos and candy floss, there is always something new introduced. One year it was deep fried oreo cookies…!
The exhibition halls have a variety of exhibits on display, one of the most popular is the auto exhibit. Each night at 7.15 is the Starlight Parade. Senior Citizens day is on Thursdays where those aged 60+ get to enter the Fair for free.

Exhibit buildings are open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

The Asian Festival is an annual event held in May in the Annette Strauss Artist Square. The festival features native arts, crafts, music, dance, food, and martial arts of various cultures of Asia.
The festival is presented by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce.

The State fair of Texas starts September 25 this year 2004 and is the largest in the country featuring BIG TEX!

The State Fair is an annual event and is the largest state fair in the nation. It is held from late September to mid-October in Fair Park. During the fair, most buildings are open from 10am to 10pm. There are two major landmarks at the fair, Big Tex and the Texas Star Ferris wheel. Coupons for food, rides and drinks may be purchased at booths situated throughout the grounds.

Fair park has one of the nation's largest intact collections of art deco buildings. They were constructed in 1936 for the Texas Centennial celebrations and are recognised as one of the most significant sites in the world for Art Deco architecture.

This date had significant value to Dallas' this was the 40th anniversary date of John F Kennedy's assassination. Large crowds gathered in Dealy Plaza to mark the time (12.30pm) when Lee Harvey Oswald shot the President. Visitors came from near and far to lay flowers and mementos at a makeshift shrine on the grassy knoll. The flag at John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza was flown at half staff.

The Sixth Floor Museum opened a special exhibit of Jacques Lowe's Pictures. Lowe was the personal photographer for John and Robert Kennedy and more than 40,000 of his negatives were in vaults at the World Trade Centre in New York. They were all destroyed on 9/11 but fortunately he had saved contact sheets which were through modern technology were restored to become bigger-than-life displays.

This festival is held annually in May and is the largest celebration of the Asian culture in North Texas. The entertainment is from all over Asia and includes a Lion dance, martial arts, sumo wrestling and Japanese drums as well as various countries performing their national dance.

The event is free and runs from 11.00a.m. to 6.00p.m. on the nominated Saturday in May.
