Neiman Marcus was founded in 1907 and they opened their first store in downtown Dallas. The are several floors of upmarket and designer goods as well as furnishings, kitchen appliances and linen.. At Christmas time the store goes all out with their window displays.

Cymbidium: Upscale specialty florist, et al.

by etfromnc Written May 25, 2007

I don't write many shopping tips and this is my first tip on Dallas but I could not pass up a place called Cymbidium when I was in northeast Dallas last summer. What young Amercan male was not introduced to the floral industry via a cymbidium? When I saw it I had to check it out. Robyn and Rachael, the sisters who own and operate Cymbidium are very young and hip, probably too upbeat for my continuous comfort, but great for a rather out of the ordinary florist cum candle shop. The shop is light, clean, and, in a sense, very transparent yet very colorful. Transparent because they use a lot of lucite and glass. Colorful because they shower you with splashes of seasonal color. If you described this place to me, I probably would react negatively toward it but by experiencing it first, I was very favorably impressed.

What to buy: Flowers and plants (some of them off-beat)
    Cymbidium orchids, of course
Fashion accessories, such as ladies' handbags and jewelry
    Scented items for the bath

What to pay: Probably a bit more than you might expect to pay elsewhere but someone has to pay for Robyn's and Rachael's creativity

This is an upscale shopping centre featuring more than 40 restaurants, shops and services. There is an ice rink the lower floor of the building. Eating facilities circle the rink.
