As someone who detests extremely hot weather, I try to avoid Dallas during the summer months. During the fall and winter, the weather can get fairly cold, so be aware of how the weather will be when traveling there.
Heat! From mid-July to early September, the sun scorches North Texas. It's not uncommon for the area to have a month long streak of 100+(F) days. If going to be in the DFW area during that time, prepare for hot temps.
It can also snow in North Texas...but it doesn't snow often...and, when it does, it only lasts for a day or two. Our winters are usually pretty mild - one day it will be coat weather then a few days later it will be short sleeve weather. The heat of summer is the thing to watch out for.
The weather in Texas is NOT predictable. Weathermen everywhere seem to struggle but not like here. You can be out on the late skiing and a Holy Heck thunderstorm rolls in and then is gone as quickly as it came. This past week we went from 95 degrees one day to 60 the next. This makes it easy to catch colds, etc. Make sure you eat your wheaties.
Welcome to the Black Land Prairie (dirt is literally black here). Stephen F. Austin wrote that Texas is the Garden Spot of The World... We have some problems though, with the Flora and the Fauna, namely little red ants called Fire Ants, they will attack you, they like to hurt you, their bite is similar to a small bee sting, they can and will hurt you if you bother them. The heat in summer is insane, smarter people will plan trips here for spring and fall. Both are amazing, spring tends to be muddy though, and is also Tornado season..
Lastly, we have a saying in Texas, "If you don't like the weather here, wait 5 minutes". This means that the weather changes a lot and fast. Be virsitle, be prepaired to take cover in rain or hail storm. Look, I never have more fun than when I'm at my favorite bar down town and a storm (or a bus) takes out the power. We light candles, and sing, and all kinds of goofy fun stuff, and the power is almost always back on before the kegs get noticably warm.
We really don't see much of a weather change here. From November to March it varies greatly between 30 to 60 degrees. April begins to warm in the 70s/80s. Then we really get HOT......August is 90s and 100s and we don't cool off until October/November.
Seldom do we see snow, usually ice when we do get bad weather in the Winter months. ...We did see some this year on Valentine's day...Today it is 75. Ha......We have a favorite saying here, "if you don't like the weather, stick around and it will change".
