This venerable establishment, with the original on the square, and a new branch on Sunset serves up tasty burgers and delicious home cut fries and red beans. It is rated the best burger place in the area by most locals.
The Cracker Barrel is a chain of restaurants that line our nations interstates. They have standard bacon, eggs, coffee, biscuits, and gravy fare that is usually very good. The sappy stuff in the waiting area/gift shop usually is avoidable, though you might find something for Uncle Joe Bob there...anyway, this joint just off the Interstate at Highway 380 is a good place to fill up the gullet if you're hungry. They also serve lunch and dinner, and actually the food is very good then too!...
Mazatlan is a cozy little place on US 380 on the East side of Denton across the street from Two Brothers.
It is at the corner of US 380 and Ruddell. A basic Tex-Mex menu that is very reasonably priced and well done. The menu includes the usual enchiladas, tacos, and various combo plates as well as standard fajitas and the like as well as carne asada and carne guisada.
The Greenhouse is a good place for dinner when you want something nice and don't feel like driving out of town.
It's locally owned and offers a variety of dishes along with jazz in the bar on Monday nights. Speaking of the bar...it's a nice place to hang out and have a few drinks as well.
Favorite Dish: The stuffed chicken with mashed potatoes
This is a franchise restuarant in the metroplex. However, I have heard that the one located in Denton is the best one out of all of them. They serve up the regular Tex-Mex menu with fajitas, echiladas, quesadillas, etc. Of course, you can always enjoy this with a nice margarita!!!
This is the original restuarant in the Traildust franchise. For those unfamiliar with the concept, this is a real Texas style steak house. The waiters/waitresses wear western wear, there's a dance floor for two-stepping, you throw the peanut shells on the floor, and you're not allowed to be dressed up. As a matter of a fact, if you happen to wear a tie, the will bring in a big cow bell and a big pair of sissors. They will cut the tie of you while making as much noise as they can. The tie will then be hung on the wall (with your business card attached, if you so desire) together with hundreds of other ties.
Favorite Dish: Steak, steak, steak. For those of you who have never tried Chicken Fried Steak, this will be the best place to do it!! (Don't make a habit out of eating it though...your arteries will probably not appreciate that...!)
THis is the best BBQ joint in the area. Reasonable prices, good-looking servers with friendly attitudes, fast services, Great food!
Favorite Dish: Monday Night: All-you-can-eat Ribs!
Tuesday Night: All-you-can-eat Catfish!
Wednesday Night: Steak on Special
All the time: BBQ and burgers!
This is a good little restaurant located not too far off of the University of North Texas campus on Elm Street. The food has always been very good and the service is great! Also, the prices are excellent! The menu has a pretty good range of options and they are always willing to accommodate special orders (ie. no MSG, no mushrooms, etc.). They have a buffet every weekday afternoon until 4:00pm and they deliver until 10:00pm Sun - Thur and 11:00pm Fri - Sat. Make no mistake, this is not high class dining, but it is a good, cheap meal with nice service!
Favorite Dish: Lotuse Potatoes - fried potatoes with red bell peppers, carrots, and pepper as main ingredients. VERY GOOD!!
Many vegetarian dishes and dishes from various Asian cultures. Mostly Chinese food, but also Thai and Japanese (including Sushi) are available.
Favorite Dish: Assorted mushrooms with tofu.
