Denton Things to Do

  • Oak – Hickory Historic District

Just blocks from the Courthouse is a collection of historic homes along West Oak & West Hickory Streets that were originally built by wealthy merchants. There is a lot of Victorian architecture, but there is also a fairly eclectic mix of architectural styles. The Oak-Hickory Historic District was established in 1986, and has the largest...

We went into the courthouse because we thought the inside might be interesting. And it was. There was a museum in there too. No photographs allowed in the museum, so all my pictures were taken from the hall (photo 5) and some of them are blurry. The museum office is in what apparently used to be a room sized safe (photo 2). The main museum rooms...

But there were no photographs allowed in the museum, so all my pictures were taken from the hall. The main museum rooms have a collection of guns, dolls, baby furniture, Denton County furniture and Southwest American Indian pottery.The...

Well, bowling is fun anytime really but it's even better at night (around 10pm) during Cosmic bowling!! The bowling alley turns down the lights, turns up the music and the blue lights come on to make an electric light show with pins and balls. It's really fun with a group of friends and a great way to meet other people if you're looking for it. It...

  • My Favorite Sandwich

Schlotzsky’s is one of my very favorite places to eat. It’s a sandwich shop that you can take out or eat in the shop with plenty of tables always available. It’s a bit pricier ($6-7 for a sandwich) than most other sandwich shops but definitely worth it. It's a place where you order at the counter, then wait for your food and pick it up when they...

  • Get out of Jail Free!

The square in downtown Denton has a traditional small town feel to it. Local craft shops, a movie theater, county courthouse and several small diner style restaurants mark the territory. One of these smaller restaurants here is called Loophole, named after the term of getting out of a conviction. This is an appropriately named bar, considering it...

  • Not really an antique store

This is like a permanent indoor estate sale or flea market. There are separate vendors’ booths with a central checkout place. It is two stories and is huge. We walked in here and walked around a little while, but didn't buy anything. It looks like a good place to prospect for things that you could sell on e-Bay.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We don't know how this could have happened, but this expensive RV drove right up the middle of concrete barriers on I-35 just north of Denton. It ripped the guts out of that RV for sure. We hope no one was seriously injured. This was in April 2012.

Denton What to Pack

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: It is COLD in North Texas in the winter. Not that the temperature would be any indication, but the thing you need to watch out for in Denton is the wind chill. There is essentially nothing stopping the wind from blowing through town here, so if you are looking for a recommendation for your packing list on your way to Denton in December... pack heavy. Lots of warm layers, and long johns would not be a bad idea!
