    Lighthouse

by keeweechic Updated Aug 24, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I could tell you that high on a hill overlooking rugged cliffs sits the Forney lighthouse... except... there are no hills, no rugged cliffs and the nearest ocean is a few hundred miles away - still that hasn't stopped Forney from having it's own lighthouse.

Actually its built on some land where the Pentacostal church will build at a later day.

Caught my eye that's for sure.

    Historical Marker

by keeweechic Written Jun 16, 2003

This marker stands in front of the Forney High School. On this site in 1868 the public education for the area (which at the time was named Brooklyn) began in a 16? x 16? room. This was both the schoolhouse and the Union church. The building was then replaced by a 2 storey wooding school building. In 1899 the Forney Independent School District was formed. The building was superseded another couple of times and recently restored.

    The Antique Trail

by keeweechic Updated Jun 16, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Dozens of antique stores, both wholesale and retail, are located in and around Forney. It all began in 1969 and has now grown to such a size that in 1987 the State Legislature designated Forney the 'Antique Capital of Texas.' This particular strip is on the service road of I-80.

    New Village

by keeweechic Updated Jun 16, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a lovely new little village currently under development. The design is in a Western rustic theme. For the moment there is only a Restaurant there and a a couple of other businesses but when it is finished, it will be a great little antique area.

Upon exiting the freeway travelling east and heading into Forney, you may think you have hit New York when you see the lovely lady coming looming at you but this minute sized impostor is the only thing that will make you think of New York.

    Home Prices

by keeweechic Updated Oct 5, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The average home price in Forney is around US$154,000. The older style homes are in the downtown area but new up-scale subdivisions and Estate ranchettes are beginning to rapidly spring up. The prices for the these range at 130,000 and up. Some have views of the Trinity River and the Dallas Skyline. Dallas people are moving further and further out in search of more affordable homes.

    A Step Back in Time

When was the last time you saw one of these sitting on a front porch. This is the charm of Thorney, this old world feel (for now anyway). Driving around the back streets you see all kinds of things.

This is just a very small little park off the Main Street in Forney. There is a little pavillion, some seating and basically not much else.

This place has a great assortment of outdoor 'decorative' bits and bobs. Inside is a large show room of smaller items for both inside and outside the home. Not cheap though, so be prepared.

Around this new/old village are some glimpses of the past. They just add a little atmosphere to this new and developing village.

This is a delightful looking little shop right in the main part of the town. I didn't get to bend the credit cards - it was closed early for Christmas.

The Cotton Mill Gin is located opposite the railway tracks. An interesting building with two levels full of the usual memorabilia. Unusual surroundings though.
