General Store by Sweetberry1 This store sells anything from gifts to food items. On the food side they have Mexican Dips, jars of Salsa and hot sauce, honey butter, hot spices, dark pralines known as 'Armadillo Droppings.. and of course beef jerky, to name but a few. Some of the more unusual gifts you might find are parts of rattlesnakes... some in a keychain version. Leave a Comment Theme: GiftsDirections: Stockyards Station Exchange Ave

by VeronicaG Fincher's is the place to go if you like the look of the Old West! They've got suede vests, gleaming silver or brass belt buckles, smart-looking cowboy boots, leather and silver studded belts, unique jewelry, spiffy children's clothing, great-looking adult clothing and other Western gear including blue jeans. We stopped by to find a pair of cowboy boots for our grandson, who promptly found a pair of black ones he liked. He was nicely fitted by one of the sales staff and encouraged to walk around the store to adjust to his new footwear. I think he's a natural! You'll find good quality merchandise and helpful staff here. Why not buy a token of your visit that will last...located in the heart of the Stockyards.

by VeronicaG My husband and I love wandering the aisles of antique shops, so have searched out a few since moving to Texas. The Montgomery Street Antique Mall was recommended by several people, so while hubby was away on business a friend and I dropped in to see what all they had. We picked a great day to visit. Not only were they celebrating the 12th year of business, but most items were 20% off and champagne was being served in recognition of the occasion. I was a little overwhelmed at first glance, but after a moment jumped right in! There was aisle after aisle of antiques of all types and over 240 vendors. Everything and anything was here. I found some Fiesta ware--brightly colored dishes from the 50's--to add to my newly started collection. The prices seemed to be reasonable, in comparing them to similar pieces I've recently purchased. I've noticed most antique shops include a small tearoom. In this case, it was the Secret Garden Restaurant . Hours for the antique mall are Mon.-Sat. 10 am-6pm; Sun. 12n-6pm. UPDATE: We stopped by after the Stock Show and Rodeo and found that many vendors had sales going on once again--this is a great place!
Anything with some age---you name it! A place this large has to have what you're looking for...

Fort Worth storefront by grandmaR My second daughter had custom handmade English riding boots made by a bootmaker in Colorado. M. L. Leddy is apparently a very famous bootmaker making western riding boots. M L Leddy doesn't make boots at the Stockyard store now, they are made in San Angelo. Someone has recommended that you go into the boot and saddle stores and look at the fantastic work they do. I haven't been into this store, but I am sure it would be interesting.
Texas Best - Cowboy Culture says: T"he modern day cowboy boot evolved from the utility boot designed to fit the stirrup of a saddle. As a result, there are boots made for riding, rodeoing, and walking... Two inch riding heels don't make good walking boots." I think that's why cowboays that have been riding walk sort of funny. They add: "Get a custom made pair if you can afford them... "The stitching on the boot top originally served to hold the multi layers of leather together without sagging. The more rows of stitching the more expensive the boot. A work boot might have four rows of stitching and a dress boot will have six to eight rows of stitching. Inlays and overlays of leather shapes are found on a Hollywood type boot.
Someone posted on the internet that their boots cost them $650.00. Another site says, "Handmade boots from $475. to $1,275." Still another places says, :"A custom boot fitting will run $200.00 and the boots are an additional $4,500.00 and up. " Expect six weeks or more for delivery. Leave a Comment
