What a wonderful little museum filled with many artifacts and photographs of Fort Worths colorful past. Very wonderfully displayed and I was made very welcome by the ladies attending the museum. Has a neat little gift shop too!

Built in 1902 to serve as the heart of the stockyard soon became famous for "The Wall Street of the West". This is where many commisions companies served the cattleman. It had such services as a bank, a post office, five railroad offices, and three telegraph offices. Livestock prices at markets around the world were posted here. The building still serves various offices, a museum and the headquarters of Lone Star Airlines inside. Can you imagine the hustle and bustle when as many as 5 million animals were traded each year. Amazing!

You must see the map on the wall. It is an aerial photograph of years gone by. It shows the stockyards which spreads for miles and miles. It truly is an amazing sight of how it used to be. You can imagine all the cattle and cowboys in those days. There is also photos and memorabilia from early stockyard days including sections of the Swift and Armour packing companies. Some lovely interesting pieces.
    Open Mon - Sat 10am - 5pm.

The Live Stock Exchange was built in 1902 and was the heart of the Stockyards. It has been described as "The Wall Street of the West". Inside were the many commission companies which served cattlemen and it was the commission man's job to negotiate the best price possible for consigned cattle. There was also a bank, post office, five railroad offices, and three telegraph offices. Livestock prices at markets around the world were posted here. Now days the building has various offices, a museum and is the headquarters of Lone Star Airlines. A lot quieter from the days when as many as 5 million animals were traded each year.

Today only tourists tromp in and out of the building unlike past days when cowboys, ranchers, commission men and cattle buyers went through is doors.

The Stockyards Museum within the building has an excellent collection of Fort Worth Stockyards memorabilia, and Western and Indian Artefacts. There is also a great gift shop and is a good place to purchase Stockyards books and gifts.
