Cowboys and Indians, Fort Worth

I would not say this is a total tourist trap, as the person is very up front with the way he operates his brusking business. As you are enjoying the Stockyards Historical District, you will come across a gentleman with a thick Texas accent that is painted in Indian war paint, and is wearing traditional Indian outfits, with a paint horse. He accepts tips for pictures with a single person, $5 for group pictures, and is actively recruiting people to take photos with him. It is fun for a good picture with an Indian, but know up front that this is a tip based business.

Fun Alternatives: We still had fun with the guy, as he was on his cell phone when we walked by, so we took this ironic pose of a cowboy and an Indian both on their cell phones!

Risky's Restaurants in Stockyards Station

There are some Tex-mex restaurants in the Stockyards that may have tourist appeal, but their food is lacking in quality. The main culprit is Riscky's: Risky's BBQ, Risky's Catch and Risky Rita's - they have a few places in the Stockyards Station section of the stockyards which also houses many little shops. I had some BBQ ribs at Risky's BBQ once...they were nasty. http://www.stockyardsstation.com/

Unique Suggestions: If you look around or ask people at the info center (which is nearby,) they'll point out some smaller, excellent tex-mex places that lack the glitz of the obvious tourist trap eateries but out-do them with their cuisine.

The Stockyards are a must if you visit Fort Worth, but beware, there are so many shops with overpriced goods. If you want to purchase western clothing (most tourists want to buy boots, etc.) go to Cavender's, they are located throughout the city and have much more reasonable prices.
