Seeing LBJ's Ranch by Shuttle Bus
The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is made up of 1,570 acres (672 Federally owned). A shuttle bus provides a tour which takes you to the Junction School*, the LBJ birthplace and Johnson Cemetery.
Although the Texas Whitehouse is still being used by Johnson family members, the bus does pull up to the front of it to allow for pictures and a stroll to the cemetery, which is across the road. The bus drives you passed the private airstrip, a small building containing Johnson's vehicles and old fire engine, show barn and airplane hangar. You'll also stop to see some of the farm animals. The tour was very informative!
*The Junction School is where four year old Lyndon Johnson first began his education (picture #2). It's of simple construction painted blue, sitting on a knoll a short distance from the Pedernales River.
The park is opened from 8:45 am-5:00 pm and the tour is from 10am-4pm daily. Tour prices are $3 for age 62 and up; $6.00 for ages 18-61; $3 for ages 7-17 and under 6 is free.
