Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Guarenteed not to disappoint you, DFW lives up to its name as one of the largest airports in the world. Because of its Central location in the US, its relatively warm weather, and the wide open spaces known as the Texas plain, DFW seems to be an ideal location to link your travel needs. The airport consists of 5 separate terminals, with 4 of the terminals being dominated by American Airlines. Terminals A,B,C, and D are primarilly American, and terminal E is most other carriers. Terminal D contains all the international flights. If you are travelling during peak times, please do give yourself at least an hour before flight time to get through security if you know what you are doing, or two hours if you are not a steady traveller. DFW is the closest airport to Frisco, and is easily reached by travelling on State Highway 121 the whole way.

    Getting to Frisco
  • Tip Rating:
  • Frisco is located about 27 miles north of downtown Dallas. The Dallas North Tollway will take you directly into Frisco from the southern end and is the main artery from Downtown Dallas. A drive from both Dallas/Fort Worth and Love Field Airports will take you around 45 minutes.

This is a free park with sculpture done by Texas artists. There are both indoor and outdoor sculptures. We took our granddaughter here to see them one day. She enjoyed the more representational ones. There is a map of the outdoor sculpture locations, and each exhibit has the name and the name of the artist. The one named Staples (2nd picture) also had a note that you shouldn't sit on it. (I was tempted). Exterior collection open daily dawn to dusk; interior art open weekdays 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am till noon

    Frisco's Rough Riders Baseball Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Frisco RoughRiders Professional Baseball, the Texas Rangers’ Double-A Affiliate, announced today that they are the first team in sports history to bring the bullpen right into the seats behind first and third bases. “This is unheard of. We’ve never seen another ballpark with both bullpens built right in the stands with fans surrounding them on all four sides,” said President & General Manager Mike McCall. It is expected to become one of the premier baseball showcases in North America. The ballpark will become the anchor for Southwest Sports Groups' new multi-purpose complex located next to the Stonebriar shopping center. This project will include a new training center for the Dallas Stars hockey team, a convention center, residential housing, hotel and a brilliant commercial office park.

Catch a Baseball Game at Dr. Pepper BallPark

Located in the heart of Frisco is the Minor League Baseball team, the Frisco Rough Riders who play at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. This is one of the best minor league ballparks in the country to catch a game, and the entertainment lasts much longer than just the 9 innings in the game. Mascots races, diaper derbies, water balloon tosses, and two-stepping on the dugout are just a few of the sights you will see at the ballpark. Then there is the food... there are two separate all-you-care-to-eat options, one including beer and wine, and the other for just sodas and water. If you go completely all inclusive, there is an ice cream dessert bar as well as 4 separate "restaurants" to choose from in the stands. The easier option is the Teddy Club (named for Teddy Roosevelt, a Rough Rider) where you can just go up and get your hot dog or popcorn from one location, and return as many times as you like. This is a little lighter on the pocketbook at only 18 dollars a game. Ticket office info: 1. Get your tickets in advance RoughRiders home games tend to sell out – especially when it comes to the weekends. So plan in advance by checking out the schedule (click here) and purchasing your tickets online by clicking here. 2. Stop by the Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office Located near the home plate entrance, on the Southwest corner of Dr Pepper Ballpark (facing IKEA), the Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office is always ready to help you find the best seats for a RoughRiders home game. Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office Hours of Operation: *Monday – Friday: 9am – 6pm (Game days - 9am until the 7th inning) *Saturday: 10am – 4pm (Game days - 10am until the 7th inning) *Sunday: Game days only – 3 hours before game time until the 7th inning *Posted hours of operation begin Saturday, March 22, 2008. Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office is closed during the off season (September 2007 – March 2008).

    H. O. P. (Hall Office Park)
  • Tip Rating:
  • In addition to the art and sculpture part of the Hall Office Park (which is apparently called H.O.P) there are grounds with ponds and flowers. According to their website they are enhancing the natural environment with a wandering landscape of lakes, bridges, and walking and running paths Our granddaughter got to see ducks, and even though it was only mid February, there were some flowers in bloom.

    Historic Downtown
  • Tip Rating:
  • The downtown area isn’t great and it’s a reasonable distance from the major and more modern shopping areas like Stonebriar Mall and all the shopping areas across from it. A lot of the original buildings however have been restored. The shops you will find will sell antiques, clothing, quilting supplies and gifts. There are some good restaurants there also. The little gazebo and clock is located just up from the Frisco Chamber of Commerce in Main Street.

    Central Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • This park is located on Parkwood drive and spreads out across 8 acres next to the Hampton Inn & Suites. In the rolling grassy landscape you will find many historic quotes on the concrete steps and walkways, several water fountains, an amphitheatre and most notably the large sized bronzed sculptures and relief murals, all depicting the Shawnee Trail. Its like a walking history tour.

    Shawnee Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • This was the earliest principal route of the Texas longhorn cattle drive which began going through this area around 1840. The cattle were driven from Austin through Waco and Dallas up north along the eastern edge of Oklahoma (as it is now) and up to Kansas City or to Sedalia, Missouri where there were railroad facilities for transporting the herd east especially to meatpackers at Chicago.
