Galveston is located at the end of a major interstate. Somehow a huge number of homeless and quirky individuals end up on the Island. Generally the homeless will not bother you aside from asking for money. As with any place, be careful where you go and extra careful at night.

it was ridiculous finding an open beach which allowed open campfire. Upon asking several lifeguards at different points, my friends and i were directed to several locations which clearly prohibited open campfires. unfortunately after setting up our campfire we were told that it was illegal to do so as the dunes were dry and needed to be protected. violaters would be fined and punished accordingly.
