The Garland Center for the Performing Arts opened in June 1982 with two theatres with seating for 720 and 200. In its first year of operation, the Center won two State Awards, the Texas Arts Alliance Award for excellence in building and management and the Texas Municipal League's Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts.
In 2001 the City of Garland began work on the Centre to expand the building to include a new PAC Banquet Hall. The new facilities are due to open in the Spring of 2003.
