Plaza Theatre, Garland
The Plaza Theatre has been a landmark for over 50 years in Garland. Just recently the Plaza was restored to the grandeur of its past. This theatre opened in April 1941 with the opening show staring Robert Young, Randolph Scott, Dean Jagger, and Virginia Gilmore in "Western Union." This is the third theatre on the downtown square. It was the most modern complex around the area for the time. When t.v. became popular, the theatres suffered. Country and Western groups utilised the centre in the mid to late 70’s and the latest use before the restoration was for the showing of Hispanic movies. The theatre now belongs to the City of Garland.
