Ft. Worth Where else can you sit downtown and see limos followed by trucks w/ cattle trailers? The stockyards are a must see. Especially during the stock show. The lakes, rivers, and trees. You can't get this get this fresh air, outdoors feeling anywhere else I've been.

by MRIOUX

Be prepared to see very large spiders called tarantulas. The locals tell me that come the summer they are as big as a man's hand and they jump around in the yards. I only seen two while in Copperas Cove. One I accidentally ran over in my car. The things I liked the most was the Riverwalk. With out a doubt a must see. Spend a few nights in one of the hotels on the Riverwalk. Can be expensive but worth the cost.

Visit the Hill Country in South Texas west of San Antonio. For the best Nightlife in the Southwest you must visit Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. The Bestrestaurants and Clubs are in the Greenville avenue/Deep Ellum area of Dallas. The Size of the State is astounding to me.Traveling for hours and hours without leaving Texas is remarkable and the difference between the parts of the states is something to behold.

If you enjoy theme parks, make sure you hit 6 Flags Over Texas, located in Arlington. I don't dig the rollercoasters, and we had a bad experience on our first ride of the day (the log ride), but the kids had a ball riding the big thrills, while mom and I hit every show possible. It was a full and fulfilling day.

by allyborwick

Wear your cowboy hat and listen to country music radio while driving - actually advice from my dallas-born texan friend!! but nonetheless fun to put into practice!! Everything is bigger an better in Texas! The trucks are huge the people all seem larger than life, even the food is huge. But by far my favourite thing about Texas was the hospitality, unbounded and continuous! Thanks!

by Mighty

be aware. TEXAS IS HOT! No, Duh... right? but seriously, the heat here kills people in the summertime, and sun poisoning is also a reality as well as frequent second and even 3rd degree sun burns. If you do not have a good base tan wear at least spf 15.Fire Ants are evil. They will attack you, literally. If you tube (pronounced tooob) then you will likely be in a rustic setting (the more rustic the better), avoid the ants. They are very small, their bite delivers some sort of infectious toxin that will raise a small blister over every bite, but just give them a wide berth and they wont bother with you.Do not attempt to rely on public transportation, you will miss all the good stuff. People in Texas are just too independent minded to ever make it much of a reality, despite the new Dart Rail (Dallas). Rent a car or drive your own.Down on the Gulf you have shrimpers and salt grass, you can...

If this is your first trip to Texas, let's go to San Antonio. While there, we can go to the Alamo, take a stroll on the River Walk, watch the Spurs at the Alamodome, and eat some of the best food (Mexican) in the world. When I am away from Texas, I just can't wait to get back to the friendly people. We still say 'howdy' and we still enjoy getting to know 'folks'.

by Mayna

You must go to the Riverwalk and the monuments in San Antonio. Additionally, Houston and Dallas are awesome. In South Texas, Corpus Christi and SOuth Padre Island are great and close enough to Mexico for a day trip. Growing up in Texas is an experience in itself. We have the most fun and see the world from a totally different perspective. LOL
