The courthouse is fairly modest compared to some. It was built in 1893 in late Victorian style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Local limestone was used for its construction.

The first court was held across the road in a local store from Barnards Mill. A log cabin was used later. The third courthouse in 1882 was burned in 1883. It was the first to be built on this site. Unfortunately a lot of valuable records were also destroyed. The present building has a fireproof vault.

The museum displays items depicting local history, fossils, relics, dinosaur bones, pioneer items and a genuine moonshiner's still from the prohibition era.
