by Alleypat There IS no bus service in Grand Prairie, even though it is part of Dallas County. I would suggest car, as hardly anything in Texas can be accessed otherwise unless you are in a larger city like Dallas or Houston. Bikes are OK and there are some designated areas for biking, but like most of Texas, biking can be hazardous as drivers do not look out for bikers. Bikers are required to drive the same as cars, but cannot of course, get on the freeway. Leave a Comment

by keeweechic There are several outdoor areas where patrons can view the racing events which include a outdoor apron seating area which is reserved as well as unreserved benches on the apron between the racetrack and the Grandstand. Concessions stands are handy to these areas as well as the grassy slopes. Leave a Comment Address: Lone Star Park, Belt Line Road,

by keeweechic To the west of the main Lone Star Park buildings is a family fun park which sits on 2 and a half acres designed purely for family entertainment. There is a sloped grassy viewing area for watching the races and often is the venue for big outdoor events, festivals and other family attractions. For the kids there is a bounce house and a giant slide as well as picnic pavilions, restrooms, pony rides and a petting zoo. General admission is $3.00 and children under 3yrs are free. by keeweechic Grand Prairie's City Hall sits just behind Main street with a lovely plaza laid out in front of it. The flower beds and beautiful fountain make for a pretty spot for some of the cities annual activities. The Cinco De Mayo Festival is held here in May 1 each year. Of course the most noticeable attraction in the plaza is the replica of the Liberty Bell. Leave a Comment Address: City Hall Plaza - near NW 3rd St and Church Street

by keeweechic Right in front of City Hall stands a replica of the original Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The bell was cast in France as a Bi-Centennial project and donations were sought not only from the adults of the community but also from school children in the form of dimes, quarters and dollars. The bell was dedicated to all who sacrificed themselves for the cause of Freedom at a special Bicentennial celebration on July 4, 1976. On the posts of the pavilion are the names of all the contributory groups who put both their time, effort and monetary aid to the purchasing and erecting of the bell. by keeweechic Cross Timbers is a geographical site and an important landmark in Grand Prairie, comprising more than 3.5 million acres. The narrow strip of sandy timberland which is called the Eastern Cross Timbers, separates the blackland prairie and the Grand Prairie. The nearby prairies supported large herds of buffalo and horses and Indians camped here because of the food and hide source also the mild climate. By 1720 French Traders came and opened trading posts. They began bartering with the Indians. Then came the Spanish with their mission outposts. All this proved very unpopular with local residents and many battles were fought and many lives were lost. It wasn't until the 1840's that the Anglo-Americans led to clashes and in 1841 the battle of Village Creek was just a few miles west of this site leaving the Indians to withdraw further to the west and leave the land to the white settlers. by keeweechic This house is on the original town site and was built in 1902 by BP Hale and his wife Ruth. In 1908 the house was purchased by Dr H.V. Copeland and his family and is known today as the Copeland Home. Originally the site was made up of 4 acres of orchard which was later gifted to the First Presbyterian Church in September 1948. The house has beautiful oak hardwood floors and 12ft ceilings and much of the original woodwork still exists. Dr Copeland's office furniture and physicians bags are on display in the house including his desk which appears to be from the mid 1800 period. There are many restorations in store for the house in time which includes a water well, storm cellar and the replacement of the roofing with wooden shingles.
