Two-Step the Night Away
One of the most modern memories I have of Gruene is attending country music live concerts at this small dancehall. Gruene Hall is located in the heart of the Gruene Historic District, and is the home to one of the oldest active dance halls in the country. Country Music Legends like George Strait, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, and many others have all graced the stage at the oldest dance hall in Texas. Although by looking at it, you would not think this is one of the best places to hear live country music, but it does not take long to get in the rhythm, slip on your Justin boots and step out on the floor for some Texas Two-Steppin'.
I would also recommend looking at the website to make sure you have a chance to get in. Some of the acts that come to the dancehall are very popular, especially people like Pat Green or Cory Morrow. If these artists are coming on the night you want to enjoy Gruene, you may need to book early, or come to the site early in the day to get in!

Tubing down the Guadalupe
One of the best things to do when in Gruene is to hitch a ride on an inner tube, and get sent down the lazy Guadalupe River. I have gone tubing several times, and it is an opportunity to relax in the sun, or enjoy a flask of sangria over the afternoon. There are definitely times of the year when this is more fun, but when we went in March, it may have been a little too cold to enjoy it this time. I would highly recommend this activity if you are passing through in the summer time.
As a warning though, you may want to enjoy this trip during the week in the summer if you have the opportunity, as on weekends there are alot of people that make their way from San Antonio and Austin.
Likely, when you get to Gruene, you will stop in to Gruene Rafting Company, which is the most convenient way to get your "Toob". They will also transport you directly back to the location at the end of your float which is important. It is also a great idea to head up the road to the Gristmill afterward, so that you can wear off the effects of the drinks you enjoyed on the raft.
