Bring with you definite plans and means to leave at your earliest opportunity.
Fondest memory: Every Friday night you used to be able to go to Prince's Drive-Inn, centrally located on the southern fringe of downtown, and enjoy a piece of genuine Americana - a completely spontaneous, totally unorganized exhibition of vintage cars drawing literally dozens upon dozens of examples and hundreds of spectators from many miles around the area. Like everything else in Houston which is genuine and evocative of a sense of municipal character, however, about ten years ago this was torn down and replaced with a vacant structure housing a defunct business (yes, that's really what I said). Today there is some construction going on on the site which seems to be related to one of the most curiously conceived (translation: somebody's getting over a billion dollars of taxpayer money without any legislative body having ever first voted on it) mass transit projects in America.
Houstonians like all Texans are very proud individuals. Though Houston may not be the most beautiful city it does have a lot to offer. There is little topography and the city is extremely sprawled out. It seems the city is always in the process of engulfing another non-incorporated surrounding area. The highways are relatively easy to navigate 45,59, and I-10 being the main arteries. Downtown is relatively small when given the fact that Houston is the 4th largest city in the States.
Fondest memory: Some funny but true myths:
most families do own a truck
no one drives the speed limit
Airconditioner capitol of the world.(thanks to our humidity and heat)
the sad one that Houston is the fatest city!(thanks to the convenience of a restuarant on every corner)
If you're visiting in the fall, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is the mega-event of the season. Bull riding, cow roping, B-B-Q, and the carnival are a few of the things to see/do.
Fondest memory: The endless possibilities of things to do when in Houston.
Like in Western movies, but also very nice medical center.
Fondest memory: Being a member of martial arts school of Master's Kim Soo
