Doneraki: First Impression - 1960 Location

We ordered carry out on a Saturday evening for our first experience with this restaurant. We put in our order asking that it be ready in 30 minutes, it was early in the evening, figured it would give them plenty of time and give us a second to run a errand. They said they would have it ready in 15... ok fine they can't accommodate our timing request, no big deal. We can run our errand later. We show up in 15 to the response, you requested it be ready in 30.... ok fine, miscommunication apparently. 45 minutes goes by and we ask where our food is, it will be right out, let me go check on it. Manager comes out and appollogies, we're irritated at this point but fine, as long as the food is good, it's a restaurant these things happen right. We get home and start to eat, the queso tastes like velveta. Again "texmex" it's to be expected sometimes. The salsa is pretty good, the meat looks good so we're getting ready to dig in, I make a fajita and get a few bites into it when we unwrap one of the pre-made tacos to find a large ugly smashed bug. It wasn't like this guy just wandered into mix here. Maybe they have so many that this happens and no one notices but it looked more like one of the cooks got chewed on a little bit and this was his idea of just desserts. One of us gets sick the other is queasy (most likely psychological I hope). We return the food and have another talk with the manager. His reply is an apology (great that's what he should be offering here) followed immediately by "this type of thing doesn't happen here, this isn't that type of establishment" ok now you've gone from apologetic to calling us liars in essence ( Not his intention or his tone mind you, but it showed a complete lack of tact in the situation. ). And then of course trying to make it right offers us a free gift card. Are you kidding? We just got a bug in our food and horrible service as our first impression with your establishment. He would have been better off assuring us that it wouldn't happen again and left it at that. Poor management, poor service, and a bug in the pre-made food. I think that about sums it up and everyone thinking of going to get food at this place gets a chance to read this BEFORE they do. Obviously we won't be going back and we're filing a complaint with the health department.

Favorite Dish: Yeah sorry.

Doneraki Mexican Restaurant: Great Tex-Mex - A Little Hurried Service

Doneraki

Doneraki restaurants are a local chain here in Houston, and serve up some of the most delicious Tex-Mex food around. There menu is astounding with an incredible list of traditional Mexican favorites such as enchiladas, fajitas, and tacos, and some of their own twists like Chicken Valentina and Shrimp a la Veracruzana. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced, and they have a decent breakfast served as well. Having visited several locations on many occasions, I can say that the food is consistently fresh and tasty, and the restaurants are very clean and well maintained. And for dinner there is usually a mariachi band that walks around the place and performs for patrons. The only problem with Doneraki sometimes is their tendancy to hurry the service. It's not that it is bad service, the staff is very friendly and you never have to wait for a waiter/waitress to pass by to check on you. But they bring the food to you quick, take the plates away as soon as you are done, and bring the check to you when you are done eating. Someone dining here can feel a little rushed, as I have experienced before. But I would have to say that this shouldn't discourage someone from eating at Doneraki, as it is very good food, and the service and prices are not bad!

Favorite Dish: The Fajitadillas - Tortillas stuffed with Fajita chicken or beef, along with guacamole, sour cream, rice, red beans, and Mexican cheese.

Doneraki Restaurant and Cantina: Great Tex-Mex!

Erakio, an Indian from the small Mexican town of Anahuac, created Tacos al Carbon using his own method of preparing marinated strips of beef and pork on a rotating up-right spit, known as 'El Trompo' or 'The Top.' Erakio?s tacos and other original creations became so famous that people began to call him Don Erakio, a way of showing respect.

Continuing the culinary tradition of its namesake, Doneraki Restaurant serves delicious grilled dishes like the Tacos Al Carbon del Trompo and Carne Asada, as well as filling house combos like the Doneraki Tipico (Taco al Carbon, Enchilada, Fajitadilla, Flauta, rice and beans).

Favorite Dish: The Enchiladas, Mexican beer!

Doneraki Restaurant and Cantina: good food, great atmosphere

Self-billed as the most authentic Mexican Restaurant and Cantina.... The food is ok, an interesting flavor to some dishes. The atmosphere is nice, albeit a bit modern and spacious in the Gulfgate Location.

Favorite Dish: Enchiladas were great, but the tamales had way, way too much cornmeal and not enough meat. I am not exaggerating to say the thickness of the "roll" of cornmeal was 1/4" to 3/8"!!

Donaraki's Mexican Restuarant: Great TexMex

This restuarant used to be a drive thru.. Now it is enclosed but you can still see the drive thru stand which is now the kitchen. There is a big fountain in the front of the restuarant, great Mexican flare and decorations.

Favorite Dish: You have to type the Taco Al Carbon con Trompo. Wonderful stuff! It is Pork that has been spiced up and put on a spit. They shave it off and serve it . Also the Caso Flamiado is good.
