Houston Zoo by H-TownJourneyman The Houston Zoo, located within Hermann Park, has been in operation since 1922. It is without a doubt one of the most popular places to visit in the entire city, and it's central location near other attractions such as Hermann Park itself and the Museum District makes it easily accessible. It features exotic animals from all over the world, such as lions, hippopotami, penguins, and a variety of primates. There are several refreshment stands around the grounds in case you need a snack or a cool drink on a hot Houston summer's day. And the gift shop has a slew of souvenirs for you to purchase to remember your trip here. The zoo was free to enter up until 1988, but the fees now are still very reasonable for all that you can experience while here.It open everyday of the year except Christmas Day. by tarush A very popular visitor attraction in Houston, the Houston Zoo is home to over 700 species of animals, reptiles and amphibians and covers 22 hectares (55 acres). The zoo was established in Hermann Park in 1922 - with a handful of animals - and has grown steadily since the federal government gave the city zoo a bison named 'Earl' in 1920. It is now an important centre for conservation and research. Most days, there are opportunities to view the feeding of certain animals, such as vampire bats, and also to see demonstrations by sea lions. The Wortham World of Primates is a lush 0.88-hectare (2.2-acre) rainforest and the natural habitat for 13 species of monkeys and apes. Other popular attractions are the big cats, including white tigers, leopards and jaguars. Leave a Comment

Pink Flamingos by AVG2319 Fun Day Trip -The Houston Zoo is located in Hermann Park . This is my favorite park in Houston area. Not only does it house the zoo, has beautiful water fountains, train ride for the kids, playground and Japanese Tea Garden. The Zoo is a relatively inexpensive trip (at least compared to other zoos we have been to) and the kids always love the zoo! Phone: (713) 523-5888Directions: Herman Park area

Can we go in there, Dad? Pretty please? by cealonzo The Children's Zoo is pretty self explaining. It's the only place in the zoo where you can actually walk up and pet the animals. Of course, we're talking about baby goats to cows. They even have chickens and ducks waddling around. The young ones should enjoy themselves. And of course, they have an area to wash your hands. (For those of you worried about cooties) FYI... this place is inside the Houston Zoo. Leave a Comment

Map to Houston Zoo by elise_crash The Houston Zoo is great for all you zoo lovers and those travelling with children! There are many exhibits, and there is almost always some kind of newborn animal. When I went, I paid only $1.50, however, there has been a recent price increase to $5 for adults and $2 for children (age 2-12). It is still worth it, though. And, near certain holidays, they do offer free days. Just check the website. Hours: Daily from 10a-6p Leave a Comment

What's that smell Dad? by cealonzo The only place in Houston where you can see live wild animals of all kinds in their natural habitat. (Besides the cages) The zoo was founded in 1922. It houses more than 3500 different animals. My son really enjoys going to the zoo. He especially likes the Children's Zoo and the Discovery Center. I HIGHLY recommend it for those with energetic kids. By the time you're done, the kids will sleep like angels. (Hint, Hint) The cost is minimal to enter. $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for kids 3-12, and free for 2 and under. One more thing, if you plan on visiting on a hot summer day. Take plenty of drinking water. Believe me, YOU WILL SWEAT. Leave a Comment
