As you drive either down the freeway or even on the side roads running parallel you will see many prison units of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. For more than 150 years, Huntsville has been the prison city of Texas as well as the Execution centre of Texas. A small and conservative town, Huntsville has 8 state prisons in the her vicinity. The first convict was processed in 1849 and right now there are roughly 450 odd criminals sitting on death row. The lesser offenders can be seen doing manual work outside the prison walls.
